Hello,
I'm an absolute beginner in Field of Glory Games.
I bought the Napoleonic Rule Book, but I can't find a word about the loss of stands.
In melee, after shooting, do I loss stands from my units? Perhaps you can help me out
best regards
Ulli

Hi Ulli, and welcome.
Unlike FoGA, there are no loss of stands in FoGN except to represent spent units or lost attachments. Attrition is represented in the loss of cohesion, from fresh, to disordered, to wavering, to broken.
Individual stands are however removed in the following circumstances:
1. For cavalry units that take a 'hit' during combat, or 4 shooting hits when charging, a base is removed at the end of the combat phase to show the unit is spent. Being spent means that you will never fight better than disordered. This represents blown horses more than casualties and ensures that cavalry generally only get 1 'fresh' charge during a game
2. Infantry are spent and a base removed if they have rallied from rout. Again this means that they will thereafter not fight or shoot better than disordered.
3. Attachments (other than skirmisher attachments) are removed when a unit is broken. The removed attachment is replaced by a normal base for that unit.
For artillery attachments, this represents the guns being abandoned in the rout. For cavalry attachments to infantry units, this represents the guys on horses running off faster than the infantry they are supporting, never to return. For Brigade Commander attachments, the BC has lost his aura and winning smile by being routed, and with it his influence over the unit.
Cheers
Brett

We always assumed the BC was killed in action, helps to hide his embarrassment over having his troops rout, but losing his winning smile and leading glow works as well.
