Terry and I are now confirmed to go along to the SOA games day and put on a hustorical FOG game. We are looking for a few volunteers to assist and likely would need to get some people together with additional figure as well. 3 a side would make for a really good game. 15mm.

We have decided to do the battle of Manizkert 1071 AD and need 4 volunteers to come along and play the game with us. 20 vs 21 BGs an around 1700 points a side. Should make for a great game. Played on an 8x 4ft table.

So whose free to come along? We may also need to borrow some figures although Terry and I reckon we can do a lot of them.

We now have 4 people

Ideally 2 or 4 more for the game but we can manage it as a big doubles game if need be.

Any takers - should be fun

If you find you are short of lead I might be able to get my Arabs and some medievals to you via Nik as a loan.

MANIKERT a the SOA GAMES DAY - copy of mail to players for anyone else who would like to attend.

Alas due to some e-mail problem Richard of the SOA hadn't received any of my e-mails over the last few weeks. I managed to talk to him yesterday.

The event is from 10-4pm at the Farnborough club

The Address is

Elles Hall

Off Meudon Avenue

Farnborough

GU14 7LE

Locaiton map link below
Location

Drinks will be on site - tea coffee etc.
There is parking at the club but even on a Sunday it is charged for so less cars for more people a plus - although not a lot ( a few 3sfor the day I think).

They have lots of tables so and 8x 4 or larger is easy for us to put up. It will be open for 8am and we will aim to get there for 9am.

Asda is 300 yds away for sback lunch and I am sure there is a pub or two if we go for and official lunch break.

I am leaving from here at 8am. Anywone in the area is happy to join up with me and go in 1 vehicle.

Please bring any figures that fit with the attached armies and if anyone has two good matching lothes that would be great.

Should be fun

Well I thought it was a lot of fun! Somehow the Turks snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, must have been all those Greek cheques in the post.....

Highlight (for me) was one unit of Ghulums that decided today was not the day to loose. They rode over and through a BG of Bulgar Cv then through one of Terry's Skutatoi units he'd brought up from reserve, killing Dukas Andronicus for good measure. I thought their number was up when Terry trapped them between a 2nd Skut BG, some LF and David F's Lh. My Ghulums simply rode over the Skut! They then turned, disrupted the LF with shooting and then rode down a BG of MF bow! (This last was after the Turk army had collapsed, but we played it out anyway to see if these guys would die  )

The main problem for the Turks in this battle was too much LH. their shooting was generally ineffective and they got in the way of "proper" Cv. The Byzantine Cv was generally heavier and there was a lot of natural prey (Turk LH) for them.

Still, good fun to see so many trops on table.
