'Prototype' Qadesh

This new scenario is not yet another update of Qadesh 1274 BC v3.2 but rather an alternate 'take' altogether. It's just something that I wanted to do for some time now, an effort to tailor ideas from old tabletop games, scenario proposals and early digital versions linked to historical interpretations of this battle that were available in the 1980s and 90s. The game map is not as compressed as in the previous version and therefore such features as the forest south of the Orontes and the Shabtuna ford are not depicted. The scenario description provides detailed information on the concept and a list of credits for some of the tabletop-to-digital ideas.

Version 4.1 posted on 02 January 2015.

I've updated the above link to a new version, incorporating just some minor changes that I feel represent the best available reconstructive accounts of the battle. This scenario is in 'classic' format, inspired by old tabletop designs. I hope that the many (ok, too many) gamer-applied game rules in this scenario will be eventually incorporated as automatic game functions in a new version of FoG, such as the timed entrance of units, timed movement of certain units, etc.

I was looking at this battle a while ago, after i saw a tv show on egyptian war chariots, and it has very distinct phases, like Poitiers but more difficult because of late arrivals. I will take a swing at it in a few weeks time now that i've found a way to model late arrivals without house rules. the technique will be demonstrated in my next scenario.

I mentioned that interesting tv documentary in one of my posts in the thread for my other version of Qadesh. It also discussed how Egyptian chariots must have attacked enemy positions, all based on a deep study of an intact Tutmosid chariot.
