Neil Hammond & I played Richard & Thomas Bodley Scott as a 1,000 point doubles early Friday pm at Britcon. The game flowed well (we each handled 6-7 BGs) and a result was reached in @2.5 hours (we won!). This reinforces my view that doubles competitions should be higher pointed With a max of 4 generals I'd go for 1,200 points, which will allow for adequate reserves.

I would advise caution. In the past there has been a tendency for tournament army sizes to creep up beyond what is ideal for tournament time limits. In some cases this resulted in them being cut back again, in other cases the larger points values have continued in use, preventing huge swathes of armies from being viable. This has particularly been a problem IMO in 25mm tournaments.
I think that 800 points is fine for singles (half my Britcon games were completed, the other half were timed out), and the evidence of our 1000 point games on Friday afternoon was that 1000 points was viable for pairs (particularly with competent players willing to seek a result). I fear that while 1200 points would allow more reserves, it would result in an unacceptably high proportion of games being timed out - particular as not all players are as fast as those playing on Friday.
However, let us not try to set anything in stone at this stage, but try out various formats. My only fear is that once a (possible excessively high) points value is set as "standard" it may be hard to retreat from that if it proves less than successful. It would be sad if "Blitz" had to be reintroduced to compensate.

I agree with Richard (Oh no not again

) 1000 pts is plenty for pairs. Any increase would just allow every combat unit on the table rear support, so just prolonging the game.
25mm games I am unsure of. Steve and I have played 800 points without any problems, but we have not played for several months and so not with the current points values.
Will try 25mm again after Reading, which will probably be my last DBM comp

I'd advocate maybe just introducing higher points values for any people using Later Crusader against armies with shooty cavalry ?
