now my understanding is that elephants disorder enemy cavalry with in approx an inch radius!! what happens to the cavalry on the elephants side, are they protected if so what happen if your fighting an army who has elephants??

Elephants disorder friendly cavalry as well as enemy.
However, they will only disorder one file of cavalry adjacent to them, which is only 2 combat dice. Disordered troops lose 1 combat dice per 3 - since there aren't 3 disordered dice, they don't lose any.
Hence the effect on friendly cavalry is minimal (although it does affect CMTs), unless they have elephants on both sides of their BG.
Hence no special rules are required for "elephant-proof" cavalry types.
