V2 Shoock Troops 'wholly' in terrain and CMT to charge

Had a game last night where a BG of Medium IF (ABs) had half a base out of the rough (the rest were completely within the terrain) facing a pike block 2 MUs away outside the terrain. Although the criteria for shock not having to test to charge says they must be 'wholly' within the terrain (and would end up even partly in the open) we assumed that since it was only half a base then that base was 'in' the terrain and as the other bases were fully in the terrain then the entire BG was 'wholly' in the terrain. Had a full base been out we think we'd have had to test.

Thus we nterpreted 'wholly' in terrain actually means so long as all the bases in a BG have part of their base in terrain (as partly in counts as in).

Is our understanding correct?

Thanks,

Steve

I would say no. Part of the BG is out so it is not wholly in.

I'm with Phil on this.

The rules are quite explicit and say "wholly" within.

That means each and every part of every base to me.

All too true unfortunately. I had some Spanish Scutarii in an area where two terrain pieces joined and the centre base of the unit ended up with part just in the open at the join so when tempted they left their nice area and went to their doom in the open.

Never made that mistake again!!!!!
