few questions

Hello,
I bought CEAW few days ago. I play now my first PBEM game as Allies with GS mod 2.10 and i have few questions.
1) I see a german bomber at Hamburg. But the FOW option is on, why i can see this plane ? I haven't got any ship near Hamburg. Of course Germany is under fow, i see only german units near the french border (december 1939), and this plane. Wad ? Bug ?
2) The forces board says that Germans have 2 aircraft units. It's impossible, i've seen at least 5 german aircraft units 2 turns ago (fighters+bombers). Is it a FOW effect ?
3) I see that an aircraft carrier can launch an attack to 3 hex distance, but with my UK CV i was not be able to do this during the previous turn against a spotted U-Boot. Why ?
Thank you very much by advance. Sorry for my bad english.

Hi and welcome to the forum
Fow applies but when planes fly a sortie/mission and strikes a target it Will reveal itself for that turn to your opponent
The forces board number are correct but doesnt give you exact number, it varies +- 2 i think. So in order to get an more exact figure, you check the figures à couple of turns. Units in production que is also counted.
In order to attack subs, you have to be adjent or in range when the turn starts.

Does the Battle of France too difficult for the german player (Mod Gs 2.10 and Vanilla ) ?
In our GS 2.10 PBEM the date is june 27th 1940 and the german army is only near Lille and Somme river. He launched Fall Gelb in january 1940...five month ago. During the phoner way, as french, i was to be able to buy few garnisons, entrenched behind river they are now long to destroy. Unfortunatly I can't give here the url of a screenshot because i'm a new user of this forum.
I read somme AAR here, (allways in Vanilla never in GS mod ? ) and i see that the german player has allways many difficult to advance in France, and Paris fall 5,6,7 month after the begin of the west battle.
Any opinions ?
Thanks !

Manual GS 2.10 :
France falls due to attrition and not because you make a breakthrough

I am fairly inexperienced myself - I bought the game in August and started my first 2.1 seven weeks ago. I am currently playing the Axis in two games, against two different opponents. In one I invaded Belgium and Holland in February 1940, then got a turn of mud - which gave the French a chance to recover some effectiveness - and invaded France in March. Paris fell in May. I then did a Sealion. In the other I invaded the Low Countries in 1940 - I can't remember when; the first fair weather turn. I have just played the April 28 turn; I have units on 4 sides of Paris and expect it to fall next turn. (The Brits stayed out of it both times, which helped.)
It sounds as if your opponent has not fully mastered coordinating air and ground units. And did he build at least 2 new air units before invading. Possibly his ARM are in the wrong place? They tend to work better away from the forests in the east. The attrition bit means that you have to wear away the French GAR. You should be able to kill 4 or so a turn. A few turns of this and the French should fall apart. Maybe your opponent needs to hotseat the invasion of France a few times to get the feel for how to go through that 'wall of GAR'. It sounds as if he is well on his way to losing your game.

I would read a multiplayer scenario 1939 AAR just on time where Axis would be the winner... I don't know if it's possible...
here there is a successful sealion, but despite this Axis lost at the end of game....

August 1941, GS 2.10, my PBEM Axis opponent says that he has lack of fuel... So early in the game ?

He did not launch Barbarossa.

if the Axis is over zealous in oil use early on (Sealion, Spain or extended France conquest) and doesn't take Yugoslavia early to activate increased oil income they can run short of oil

- he tried to invad Great Britain 3 turns ago but cancelled it before any troops landed on beaches, ( i had a unit on each 7 beaches targeted),
- He accepted Vichy after a long battle of France, 6 turns approximately,
- He did not attack Spain,
- He took Yugoslavia few turns after the fall of Paris, (before the end of 1940 or earlier 1941, don't remember exactly).
Does Axis too zealous in oil use ?

that seems like he was reckless in his air use, did he fly missions continually in winter?
perhaps you should play a 'learning' game against a moderately experienced player

The Axis player needs to be aware of his oil consumption and plan accordingly. E. g. when you move the armor/mech and air units to new theatres then you should rail them. This is particularly important when you transfer the German forces from France to the east front prior to Barbarossa.
I rarely fly air missions in bad weather. You burn quite a lot of oil and you inflict little damage. So make sure your oil consuming units attack or move for a reason.
If you plan carefully then you can start Barbarossa in May / June 1941 with 800+ oil.
If you're inexperienced with the Axis then you will run out of oil too early. Next time you know a little more and spend a little less oil. As an elite player you should be able to keep the Axis oil levels above critical level until almost the end of the war.

OK. Notice that our game is with GS 2.10 mod, i don't know if this mod is more difficult about oil and "overall" (don't know if it's the correct word in english ) for Axis side ?

2.1 Mod is easier on oil - that is the Axis uses less

How many turns the soviet units suffer a -20% penalty after the begin of Barbarossa ?
Re: few questions

The manual says:
"Reduced Russian surprise effectiveness loss from 30 to 27, i. e. 3 turns with reduced efficiency regain."
an later:
"The Russia surprise recovery was increased from 5 to 9 per turn. Reduced Russian surprise effectiveness loss from 30 to 27, i. e. 3 turns with reduced efficiency regain."
So it seems to be a -27% penalty, with the maximum which it can recover to increasing by 9% each turn. So four turns after DoW the Russians have their pre-DoW potential for effectiveness. Of course, whether an individual unit actually regains this by then depends on a lot of other things.

Hello,
An other question please :
It's seems that soviet troops cannot use the persian railroads for going to the south of the country, near the irakian border and the persic golf ?
I sent few soviet infantry units from Caucasus to Persia but they advance only one hex per turn. I sent them to a railway station and in a city, but they was not be able to use it (train icon stay grey and does not become green)...
Why ?
