Support shooting and 180° turn

2 questions came from yesterday evening game :
When a BG with a front rank bigger than the last one turns 180° : how do you make the new formation legal ?
Do you push the base(s) forward or displace the small front rank backward ?
Concerning support shootin in the impact phase :
Shooting is only allowed vs charging BG and then not for a charging BG. Is it then allowed for shooters supporting a charging BG which is intercepted ?
BTW, we spent the evening simulating how my Scots could catch a tatar army in the steppes...
We didn't find out ! Any tip ?

The old front rank becomes the new front rank, et voila!

No.

The old front rank becomes the new front rank, et voila!
But the new front rank is then smaller than the rear rank : it is illegal isn't it ?

No it isn't.
The old front becomes the new front rank
means exactly what is says: thus
becomes
Thus, if the front rank is HF and the rear rank is LF, they swap places.
So the final formation is
exactly the same as the starting formation but facing the other way. (With the front edge of the BG level with the previous rear edge of the BG)

OK it's clearer now, thanks !
It means that the BG turns and not each rank... It was my mistake.
