Arc of fire

Hi

I have been carefully reading the V2 rules and have spotted an unexpected picture in the V2 rule book.
On checking the V1 rule book I find it to be the same there.

The top picture on page 89 titled "Arc of fire and line of sight" shows the arc and how many bases can fire at close range when the target and friendly BG's are lined up.

This is not how I and many others have been playing it.
Is this picture correct?

The issue is only which bases are eligible to fire when EXACTLY lined up with the enemy. If either BG were a fraction to the left or right there is no ambiguity about who can fire, but when exactly lined up is the picture correct?

I have come across this in v1 before. I believe the text has changed in v2 though.

It used to say within, which is defined in the glossary as at or closer than. Off the tip of my head i think it now says inside or closer than.

I agree that the diagram could be clearer on this point, but the bases in the diagram are NOT lined up. A line extending the join between the 1st and 2nd files from the left of the closer BG of archers is actually slightly inside a line extending the side edge of the cavalry. This overlap was more obvious in the draft diagram but shrank in the final version. However, hold a ruler along the side edge of the cavalry and you will see that it is so.

If the bases were lined up, the 3rd file of archers from the left (of the nearer BG) could not shoot.
