Limbers

Hi Guys,

My Louis XIV army is nearly ready to go. Just some artillery to do and I'm set.

Anyway - my figures came with limbers, so I 'have them to paint up'.

I'm wondering if anyone has ever used Limbers? I can see the extremely rare times when you may want to use them.

So, I guess the question would be, out of all the games you've played, how many times have you hitched your guns?

On a totally different topic... bloody hell red artillery looks gaudy and I've only done the darker 'deep coat' not the lighter 'hilight' so far. I feel like I'm painting up a set of harlequins.

Limbers can be useful for Medium Artillery. Especially if you suspect your opponent will deploy his infantry out of range...

I haven't used them often, but on a couple of occasions they've proved invaluable.

Thanks Dave,

I'm wondering about the modelling side of things. The limbers wouldn't easily fit on a 40x40mm base because with the limber (which is about 40mm long my itself), then there is the horses and on top of that the handler! So, I'm thinking of basing the lot on a 40x80mm base and have the limbers etc NOT hitched to the horses. This would mean that they would look a bit odd if used to draw the guns, BUT in reality they are just markers.

Thoughts?

I always take limbers when I have Medium Art (which is about 85% of the time). Mine are either 2 horses and a small limber on a 40x40mm (15mm) base or on a 40x80mm (15mm) if I have 4 hourse/oxen. No one has ever complained.
