The elephant had 2 "fingers". Which I suspect would be the reply from the authors.
Some (or at least 1) of the southern chinese armies get elephants.

The evidence for the military use of elephants by early dynasties (Shang, etc) is sketchy at best. Mind you evidence of any sort in this period is pretty sketchy and I believe at least one manufacturer makes a model (although I cant remember which one).

yes but these were in northern china..

and franky a lot of other armies are based on sketchy info.....

Elephants were hunted in China at a very early stage, however they were not domesticated.

Some, much later, Southern armies did, very occasionally, use elephants. I believe these are already in a list or two.
