Wanted an iPad for 10 seconds

Yes it actually happened, I actually pondered getting an iPad for 10 seconds.

Then I ripped that defective portion of my brain out and killed it dead dead dead :)

Ok I know not eveyone hates the things, I just hate that they are over priced and nothing special.

But soon I suspect BA will be joined by BA2 on the iPad and there is now apparently Battle of the Bulge from another publisher that looks incredible, and soon Panzer Corps will be there.

Meanwhile my logically priced Android tablet has Small General and Small General Easter Front as well as a couple of other reasonable efforts, but mainly it is an Angry Birds device when not being a great book reader or web browser. It just doesn't seem like the better target for SERIOUS game designers because of the muddled OS environment (which is likely why Linux is still a geek domain).

I suppose if they end up with a BA and a PC and a good Commander Europe at War contender on the iPad, it will mean either buy it for a wargaming hand held, or stick to playing my wargames on my DS when not using a laptop. Of course my main problem is, the only time I can't use the laptop, is when a tablet is the right choice. But that is not a common daily event for me. And why spend 4-500 to be wargaming on an iPad when a brand new laptop seems sooooooo much more smexy eh? :)

I do wish someone would get a decent grip on the Android OS.

Yes, I've played it for about 10 hours so far. It focussed on one battle, but does this intensively. The game system is elegant - it's a real wargame. Not hex based (the map is divided up in to regions), and game turns range from 30 min to a few hours (game time) but only take a couple of minutes each to play (depending on how long you ponder...). Only one region can be activated per turn, and the stacking limit is 3 units. The combat system is transparent, defensive/offensive rules regarding terrain, armor, experience etc. are logical. The AI is quite good, and it's easy to run MP games via Game Centre. Probably the best $10 I spent on iOS this year.

^ This. BofB is where it's at right now. Very deep strategy.
