Game crashes after intro movie

I have the same problem, like some people over here.
When I launch game it plays intro movie (even if it is disabled in launcher) and crashes.

I can't attach log file because there is no log file at all. Actually I have only LAUNCHER in this folder.

I found lots of topics about this problem here and on matrix forums, but all of them had no solution at all.

Again a non codepage 1252.
You have My Documents in Cyrillic.

Hi ,

We are looking into this, it has most likely to do indeed with Cyrillic language settings within Windows.

Great to know that you are looking into this!

By the way it runs OK on my laptop, though it also has cyrillic windows. Maybe it is combination of win XP and language, what causes trouble.

Aye, we are looking at it, but no easy solution... the problem is definitely the Cyrillic Russian/Greek Windows setting.

Try this beta hotfix for Greek/ Russian Windows versions:

Using Windows explorer, go to your Commander: The Great War installation folder . Rename the existing file "ctgw.exe" to "ctgw.exe.old" (or any other name you wish) as a backup. Unzip the updated "ctgw.exe" into your Commander: The Great War installation folder.

Please report back if it fixed or not the issue.

I had installed your fix and basically game is working now.
But whatever options I choose in launcher, it is always windowed instead of fullscreen (same resolution window). Turning intro off does not work aswell.
Thanks a lot, now I can try playing! (But actually windowed mode is frustrating and I hope one day you will fix this issue too)

Check your "LAUNCHER.INI" file in Documents\My Games\Commander The Great War.
Check if the file is attributed with read only. Open with notepad or similar and edit the value at "Fullscreen FALSE" change to "Fullscreen TRUE". Save the file and run the game.

So, does launcher.ini exist at specified location? What about Fullscreen TRUE / FALSE?

Please download and test this new hotfix. Check if the issue with the full screen mode is fixed.
Thanks.

I have been having the same issue, I did all the steps suggested in the read me first post and I couldn't find any new drivers that I might be missing. I did install v 1.1.4 and it didn't fix the problem, I have installed and un-installed the game several times, including on another XP computer without luck. I am including the requested info below:

Hi foxhole, welcome to the forums.

It really looks like drivers are a likely candidate. It looks like your graphics chip is an Intel 945G, if so, you can download the latest drivers here:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_ ... pe=Drivers

That's the first thing to try. Let me know if it solves the problem.

No luck Myrddraal, I was able to update one more driver that I missed last time but I got the same results after reloading the game.

Here is some more info that might help:
Windows XP Professional Version 2002 (5.1.2600) Service pack 3
Intel Pentium 4, 3Ghz, 2GB of RAM, 82945G Expess Chipset
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator, latest driver is 6.14.10.4926 (2/15/08, I couldn't find a newer one)

The only line that changed in the glewinfo log was the new driver:
OpenGL version 1.4.0 - Build 7.14.10.4926 is supported

Let me know what additional info you need.

Thanks

That is a very old driver, see the link above, best is to download direct from Intel and try that one first:

Wow, you do tech support on New Year's Day? I'm impressed :)

I think I might be out of luck since all the newer drivers after 6.14.10.4926 for XP Professional are 64 bit, Intel has it listed as the latest driver available for a 32 bit 945G Chipset. I also tied a half dozen other drivers that were close just to see if one might work. Has anyone had any luck running the game on a 32 bit XP system?

It wasn't all bad, I was able to update the INF driver to 9.3.0.1021 (7/11/12) and downloaded and installed the latest NET Framework software from microsoft. Hopefully I am not dead in the water, any help is much appreciated.

Most people on XP are probably on 32-bit, including me. My game runs with no problem. But my graphics are NVIDIA, not Intel.
