Page 60/61 states victorius troops can 'occupy' buildings when the enemy retires and then'defend' in the next movement phase. Page 77 states all troops must pass a CMT to defend. (Not mentioning this does not apply to skirmishers as pernthe CMT table.)
So, does a victorious unit have to pass a CMT or does it automatically 'defend'?

You should go to the downloads section of the forums, the whole buidlings rules has been revised and rewritten, it might make it easier to understand.

I believe the new rules state you can go into defensive mode by occupying a building that you defeated an enemy in and forced to rout. Its your pursuit move basically.

Here's a new one: played a game yesterday with buildings in my set-up area. Was I allowed to 'defend' buildings upon set-up or do I 'occupy' at set up and need a CMT to 'defend'? We played the latter, I naturally failed the CMT and just moved out of them.

In your deployment zone, then your choice.

But also as you are allowed to deploy in any formation then you can.

Also keep in mind if you are defending and a building is within a move of your deployment you can move forward to make contact with the building with the intention of occupying or defending next move. A way to sneak out ahead of the defending move restrictions.

That is helpful, thanks. Guess I should have used common sense. Of course if I just use common sense instead of what the rules say then I will be playing a different game than anyone else.
