At Historicon marc and I had a few practice games in addition to the demo (thanks for the beer JD, sadly it was American)

I'll post detailed questions observations later. But one springs up with all these other posts about 1000 points.

Granted we are very newbie, but Ken and the bunnies had similar reactions.

800 points at 15mm seemed too many points on a 4x6. Now I can already see how that would be managed. Hey want rear support! But the observation was made that when dbm started in the states that 400 point games lasted long and they initially got cut down to 375 and 350. Once experience with mechanisms rose, then points could to.

So you may want to consider 650 or 700 for starting people out.

Every one of the lists already contains a roughly 600pt ready made armies suggested for starting out - no need to put one together just pick up and play. There are also 2 x 600 pt starter armies inthe rule document.

800pts feels right pretty quickly.

Not quite every one, but a lot do.

Fair does - the vast majority do to be really precise.

Well I don't doubt what you are saying. I am just relaying impressions that people seemed to agree upon and brought that expereience from 3 distinct geographic regions. But as I said, it also seemed to us that it impacted us due to inexperience.

Whilst things certianly speed up when the rules finally settle in the grey matter, I agree with Dan and his crew -- 800 points does seem at first (and second) glance slightly much.

Our first few games were 800 points (15mm on a 4x6 and 25mm on a 5x8) - after that we have been sticking to 650 for both scales, and things flow nicely. We've only played about 8 games (tonight we did Byzantines versus Arabs), and things are moving quick, but 650 just feels more comfortable. At the tourney level, given a 4-hour or so time block, perhaps 800 points will give a more meaty and satisfying game. THAT said, I will be sticking to 25mm (always my preference), so my view is perhaps biased. Three of our games have been in 15mm and five in 25mm.

As I have said the recommended starter armies are 600 points already?!

The lists contain these now and the rules has 2 600pts armies in there.
