Given that the game is currently on sale, I was wondering if anyone could sell me on it? How hard is it to learn well enough to take part in some PBEM games and be competitive? Also how activate in the MP community? Thanks for any answers.

the game is very easy to learn (but very very hard to master) a couple of games against the AI will have you able to play PBEM and there are lots of players available
on the plus side
- its a very good strategic level game
- balance is good
- reality is good
- easy to learn, hard to master
- active community
on the down side
- its a java based game so not lots of pretty graphics
- a significant skill differential results in slaughter while learning - so avoid the half dozen super players early on as you won't learn!

i would say 6 games is enough to be competitive, but there are levels!
I have played for a while and have only won 2 games against the top 6 (out of maybe 10!)

I think its à great game, i feel i really got My money worth
Can only agree with the above. Been playing this game now for almost 3 years and still enjoy it. Sign up and join the fun
Try to get out and find beginner opponents, that's the way to learn after à few ai games.
Good luck and hope to see you in the forum

Had one last question. Since this is an older game, does it work with windows 7 64 bit?

I recommend you buy it, especially if you also use the Grand Strategy mod which is free. The mod is really well supported by the volunteer developers and the forum is a great place to learn and have your questions answered. Playing the Axis in PBEM is very challenging, so be prepared to get schooled initially.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I feel I will be getting this game before the sale ends, unless I decide to spend a little extra and grab Commander: The Great War instead.
