I have introduced two of my war gaming friends to BA but on the opening turn, both players (American side) expressed there surprise at the positioning of both forces. Part of the fun learning BA is moving your forces around the map so why pick this scenario to introduce new players to the game? It plays out in the opening turns like a shoot 'em up game!!!
Would it have been better to start the battle out of LOS of each others forces? That way the new players can at least get to grips with moving the units before the shooting starts.

They are definitely designed to get new players right into the action. We didn't want people to not know what to do, but for some it might feel like it is somewhat too set up for them. But after the initial firefight they then need to move out and find the enemy in a more free-flowing rest of the mission.

But it's good to have feedback from you on these kind of things, perhaps we might need to have more options for inviters to choose depending on the level of play that the person being invited is used to.

Cheers
