MY next candidate for scrapping!

Next game as the CP i plan to scrap the German sub unit, as soon as the initial offensive in France concludes. My reading is that it is not worth the cost. I certainly won't build a second unit.
The PP maintenance cost of a sub over the course of a 100-turn game is 200. To break even, you have to sink 20 convoy points. I have two subs and in my game, about turn 70, I have sunk a grand total of 10 points of shipping. To break even I have to sink another 30 in 30 turns.
I might be doing something wrong. I suppose I should play as the Entente and write down where all the convoys stop and sit their waiting for them. But I don't want to have to do that.
Furthermore, I suspect that the 11th point sunk will trigger American entry. I received a warning when I sank the 6th point.
Does anyone know the exact point that triggers US entry?
