I had many frustrating problems with display, choosing units, targeting, ghost paths, extra hex rows on edge of screen, mini-map different than full map, zooming in and out not working most of the time, etc.
Was on Full Screen display, decided to try Windowed Mode. Like magic! All problems disappeared. Love the game now

Glad to know you solve your issue.
I don't remember a issue like that being solved that way, so it would be great to know your system details in case someone has the same symptoms.
Could you please post your DxDiag of your system?
