I'm interested in the relationship between a units Strength and Effectiveness with regard to a units overall combat readiness.

e.g. Does a unit with 10 strength and 50% effectiveness have the same combat effectiveness as a unit with 5 strength and 100% effectiveness.

What is the relationship between the two properties. How are the combat results calculated? Perhaps you could show us the formulas used for this calculation.

PS please could you let me know the answer before the Soviets (and their Supertanks) arrive in Berlin.

I guess what I'm trying to find out is what is the most important factor between Effectiveness and Strength when calculating overall battle readiness and expected combat results. :?

Effectviveness is proportional to damage you inflict on enemy, so a 50% effectiveness will inflict twice as much damage as 25%

Number of attack per unit is

Strength+EXTRA_ATTACKS

General.txt script.
EXTRA_ATTACKS 4 /* EXTRA_ATTACK+strength=num attacks*/

So this in fact means a strenght 10 unit has 10+4=14 attacks while a strength 3 unit has 3+4=7 attacks.

So, in conclusion a unit with strength 3 and 50% effectiveness will be as good as one with strength 10 and 25% effectiveness.

So, in conclusion, effectiveness counts for more than strength, yet the figure shown on the counter is the strength?
Just trying to understand...

Strength does not improve effectiveness, they are independant factors as much as for instance ground attack or entrenchment or terrain penalties are separate factors.

You can have a unit with strength 1 and effectiveness 100% which means 100% of those poor remaining soldiers in your unit will fight :D

The only link between them is that you will lose effectiveness not only to shock attacks but also when taking casualties, so when your strength drop your effectiveness will drop also but effectiveness will regain regardless if you reinforce your unit or not.
