Is it possible to mod the Allied AI's invasion tactics?

Hi,

I have noticed (and others have commented on this as well...) that the Allied AI consistently sends invasion transports to invade German held territory without any any escorts! The indiscriminate sending of Allied transports without escorts to invade German held territory is bad enough but I have I found that the Allied AI doesn’t even try to vary where it sends them. The AI in the game I am playing now (GS 2.0) keeps targeting the Normandy coast (without escorts...) so all I have to do is lie in wait…which isn’t very sporting…

I also noticed that convoys tend not to be escorted as well…?

Is there any way to mod the AI to have it escort its transports/convoys with more realism?

Thanks,

C

Unfortunately no. The AI rarely escorts, and when it does it just defends convoys. Usually the AI ships are used for attacks and beach hex supply. Your best bet for a challenge is to limit your play via personal house rules.

Some house rule examples for playing the Allied AI:
- No sub/ship attacks on transports allowed at all, just on supply ships.
OR
- No sub/ship attacks within the English Channel.

Usually you won't see AI transports in the Med, so no need to limit attacks there.

Additionally, you should consider a house rule for French coastal hexes, since even with a no attack rule on Allied transports it is still very easy to not allow them any landing hexes. One idea is to only allow defensive land units in coastal city or fort hexes. This lets the Allies land some units, and requires some amount of effort to defeat them after they come ashore.
