A case of disappearing core units

While playing the second scenario in the evacuation of Sicily of the 42-43 West DLC, I moved a core tac bomber (Me 410a) over evacuation hex (13,9) for the Italian support troops to withdraw to. To my dismay, the plane vanished upon completing its attack! Fortunately, the unit becomes available for placement in one of the starting position hexes, but you can imagine this is rather inconvenient. this can be reproduced with any core ground and air units in any evacuation hex, so the maps have become seeded with sinkholes  The briefings never stated that core units would be affected too by those evacuation hexes, did they?!

Also, consider what happens if one fielded a full slot allowance and the scenario granted extra core units ... you wouldn't be able to field the vanished unit again until you sank as many other core units in those withdrawal points as needed. To top things off, these vanished units will need to be redeployed too remote from where they were actually needed  I really love the way the game keeps getting functional upgrades along with new content, but this bug gets my vote for the next patch, maybe it even warrants a hotfix?

During testing, it was found that there needed to be evac hexes near the front lines, or else any Italian units used effectively as part of the player defensive line could not be evacuated fast enough. As such, several of these hexes were added in fairly out of the way locations, but close enough to be easily reached. While a little inconvenient if you move to these locations unintentionally, the need for your aux to have these escape routes trumps that. Just be careful and watch your step. ;)

As an added function, these sort of hexes can be used to intentionally remove CORE units from the field. Badly damaged elite unit you want to move to safety instead of spending extra prestige to elite refit instantly? Evac that unit, and call up or purchase a new CORE unit to fill that slot. There are lots of possibilities to explore and we look forward to doing so in continuing content.

While I agree with the valid points you raise, I can't help but feel this is still a bit of an obfuscated bug  At the very least, the briefings should be clear on its effect on non-auxiliaries. It's a bit of a revolving door really. Personally, I don't think the potential "exploitation" of this function by a player matches the general feel and spirit of the game. I'll just need to enforce some player discipline on myself.
