FIELD OF GLORY v2 release

Firstly I would like to thank you all for your patience and for the valuable feedback since we originally announced our plans for the v2 release.

Well we did listen, the bad news is that this significantly impacted on our planned release date, but the good news we hope is that the forthcoming release will be for iPad, PC, MAC, and a fully printed POD version as per version1. Costing, coordinating and placing all of this in production and layout etc has taken some time and the last step in this fully coordinated release is our submission to Apple for permission to proceed on iPad. WE believe that all versions should be available at the same time.

We will also be releasing this initially with Rise of Rome. Our plan if this proves popular will be to release all of the army lists in this way. THe great benefit Of releasing on these mediums is that it will now be possible to not only iterate the rules and lists as needed, but to alter and balance points values in the lists, thus removing restrictions to changes that were simply not possible without points vales changes.

A control issue will of course need to be the frequency of changes, but we see this as being driven by you, as and when you feel such changes are necessary and beneficial.

Revolution we promised and revolution it is. We believe that this is the way forward for all table top wargaming rules and the Greater enjoyment, interest and engagement for all our players, so watch this space, time will tell :-), but you heard it here first

Regards JDM

I cannot yet say the exact date in October that we will release, this is subject to the Apple approval but it is imminent

If you haven't done so already, I hope this additional delay will give you time to test the binding of the POD option. You don't want the books falling to bits after a few games.

well october is good.

The Rise of Rome thing ian - is that publishing the current lists in a digital format (plus POD?) or is it a revision of the lists as well?

The lists have not yet been updated, this will need to be a well coordinated exercise, the initial process is to iron out all of the technical issues, from there on a fairly straight forward process to iterate(once the appropriate changes are nailed down. )

What will the print version look like ? Softback or hardback, same size as V1 ? Full Colour with all the pictures or just necessary diagrams ?

Print on demand. I believe they have said it will be full colour with diagrams and the same standard (but don't hold me to that). Can you get POD hardback. If you pay enough I assume so.

Really? An expensive option? Why are you not using a free service that simply hands you a percentage of the sales?

At a guess, designing an entire several hundred page book for POD ...?

There should be no difference in the cost of designing the book for traditional printing.

While per unit costs may be higher, the risks are much lower, since you have not had to pay for a warehouse load of books that may or may not sell over time.

I don't think people understand the time and effort going in to this. It's not a matter of sending a word doc to your local print shop and running off some copies. The print files are 5GB :)

Anyway we're pleased to announce that the print on demand version of Field of Glory 2.0 Ancients & Medieval will be a full colour hardback edition. Just like the original!

Do people care how much work goes into it, no, providing they can have it.
This is the computer age Iain. I want it and I want it now. Keep up with the times.

I am a captive customer...I will likely buy 1 POD and 1 ipad regardless of the packaging....but don't tell Slitherine, eh?
