Very nice stuff, Iain! And very clever the way you used the screenshots to illustrate. I have to hand it to you lads at Slitherine, you are certainly sofron ;)

sofron by the way, is a word used by the ancient greeks to mean something like our english word "cleverness". It carries strong elements of getting the most possible out of one's available assets. It also implies the actions of an underdog, one who is apparently outmatched, but never the less survives and triumphs by his wits.

BTW, Wikipedia insists the battle took place at the Caudine Forks, with no L ;)

And this translation of Livy's book 9 refers in the first sentence to "Caudium".

Forgive me, please, Iain. I offer this info to help Slitherine look good with the history buffs, not to be a smartass :)

No problem - I'm sure I've seen it written as Claudine, but I may be wrong.
