transport attack ability

during the recent pbems , I experienced several times that when a BB or DD attack a transport , the result is 1:4 , 1:3 , 1:6 . According to the step caculate, it mean when a BB fleet attack a transport , 5 BB or DD are sunk by transport ! Is it reasonable ? Even if the transport are armed ,the 127mm or 40mm bofus won't be able to sink even one DD . I have never heard of any transport armed with torpedo, so how could it sink even one BB ?

The odds get daft late in the game. Modding's the only thing for it I'd think but that's not really an option for pbem.

I have never seen odds like you present regarding transports. Transports don't get techs from research so they should not improve.

Amphs get bonuses with techs in general and surface ships, but mainly regarding attacks on ground units.

I just tested the 1944 scenario and sent Allied Amphs close to the German coast line.

Then German air and naval units attacked these amphs. The German BB got 6:0 odds, sub got 5:0 and tac bomber got 5:0 also. So 2 German naval attacks was enough to completely sink the Allied amph.

The German naval units don't have as high naval tech as the Allied ones and the Allied amphs have the best tech they can hope to have. Still they get eliminated easily without inflicting damage at all.

If you receive the odds you get then you must have altered the data in unit.txt or general.txt.

Can you check a transport in one of your games and read the naval attack and air defense values for the transport? When I check the values in my games I see naval attack = 1 and air defense =1. Then transports have a very little chance inflicting damage.

I will try to find an example & report to you . Thank you sir !

I frequently see transports inflicting 1 step of losses to air and naval units.
If you operate with really bad naval units (like yellow effectiveness destroyer) you can get 1:1 or even 0:1 in transport favour.
I can live with it, healthy units (like germans with high organisation) sink transports in no time.

Naval units with orange or yellow efficiency are units who can be seen as out of supply (fuel, munitions etc.). So they don't work well in battles. They would perform very poorly against other naval units as well.

Transports can inflict a bit of damage (like 1 step) if attacked. Remember that a transport unit consists of the actually troop transports and some naval support vessel of lesser size than destroyers. Troop transport ships could have flak mounted on then and the support ships could fire back at enemy naval units. The support ships would screen the landing craft units.

When you lose steps on a BB or DD unit it doesn't mean the casualty was only from a BB or DD unit.

A BB unit is a small task force with BB's as the flagship. A typical BB unit would have CC's, DD's and FF's attached to it. A DD unit had FF's and even smaller units attached to it. So if you inflict a step loss you can just as easily have sunk some of the support vessels.

This part sounds acceptable . Thanks Borger !
