Tactics

Hi All,

I was just wondering how people were getting on with tactics in the game? I have tried the game at the very easy setting - just to get to grips with things, and in most cases it was fine, but when you up the difficlulty things get very hard. The manual is ok as an intro, but what would be quite good is some info on what tactics work, etc.

I know its a new game - and I know about Rome Total War, but I like this one because it is battles only, bit like the 'Tiem Commanders' program. Now in that the experts did give some guidance on tactics.

So how do people win?

So as regards tactics - its a no no then!!!

Just wondered really.

It seems at the hard setting, you really have to think about things, but at easy you win whatever you do.

Perhaps as its a new game, things are still developing.

The easy setting is a bit too easy once you get the hang of the game mechanism so I'd jump up to hard or very hard if things turn out to get dull :)

Hi,

On the hardest setting you really have to look at the terrain and the experience of your troops. Different Formations (offensive, defensive) have a serious impact as well (you may change formation in battle as well.

Be sure that light infantery fights on rough terrain
Be sure that Heavy infantery and cavalery fight on open terrain

It happened to me that in the last phase of a battle i sent a unit of light infantery on rough terrain even if it was on the other side of the battlefield in order to give it the best chances to win.

Cheers

Keith -

I'd suggest you take a careful look at the Legion Arena forum. We have hashed tactics over endlessly in there :)

Ok thanks.

So is Legion a bit like GBOR then?

If so I may get that as well!

Basically, as I understand it-

GBOR is the Roman Campaign from Legion Arena, revamped with some cool History Channel movies, and added ambush/scout rules, and packaged for two consoles whose names escape me at the moment. A PC version was also added.

It is my understanding that the battles in LA and the battles in GBOR are mostly or entirely the same actions. Obviously the potential to ambush your foe, and to scout out ambushes before they are sprung, adds a whole new dimension.

I'm just another gamer, nobody official, and I do not yet own GBOR, so take the above with a grain of salt :)

If you have GBoR there is not really any reason to go back and get Legion Arena.
