Question: Buying Units

How do you set up unit purchases for the player in BA?

I know that in the Editor you add in the amount of points that you want the player to be able to spend. How do you designate the units that they can buy? Obviously in a script but is there a good example of this? I remember playing a mission, created by a customer, where you bought ALL of the units. I cannot remember the name of the mission. Can someone give me a script file name where this is used and which Function section has the script?

Hi OW, Actually it's easier than you think. No requirement for scripting (unless you want to randomise). Take a look at the Editor section of the Template guide, viewtopic.php?t=18286

In the latest version of BA, all you need to do is assign units on the Editor map. Normally unit icons show with "FIXED" written over them, meaning that side gets that unit, in that location, no choice. Point your cursor over the unit, press F, and "FIXED" disappears. That player will now have the choice to buy that unit from the budget you assign in the Editor. It will always start in that location, so you may want to disable the artillery/airstrike bonuses for a couple of turns at the beginning of the game.

I assume that all AI units in single player games should always be "FIXED". The Editor will let you place up to 64 units per side on the map.

Good luck!

Thanks much! I could not remember where on the forum or documentation that the key "F" was noted but you have put me on the chase.

Now to find that M26 Pershing in the Units listing! ;)

Pleasure and good luck OW. Can't wait to use your new guide. It's badly needed...

If you're up for creating new units, then Jane's Complete Guide to WW2 Tanks & Fighting Vehicles is the best reference, so you can create stats for squads.csv -> http://archive.org/download/Janes-World ... eGuide.pdf

M26 Pershing is on p203

If you want to be really creative, the T34 is p163, and KV p166, because somebody really needs to create an Eastern Front scenario!

I could use a helper for the guide so if you want to review it I already have Junk on my list of helpers. One more "pair of eyeballs" would be appreciated.

Creating new units is something I have yet to learn fully. That would fall under the Advanced category and will be something that I add to the Guide once I fully understand how it all works. Right now I would be amiss to try and do anything like that. I know that there is a master list that Iain maintains too. I would have to understand how you can make up custom units, get the DDS graphic files made and all that. Nowhere near that level of expertise and frankly I would want an ANIM partner to do up the graphics anyway. My brothers and sister were the artistic ones in the family. I am a hacker with graphics at best.

Delighted to help on the beginners' stuff once we're past mid-Sept (deadline on something else). You're creating something really useful!
