I think the Picture used for Protected Alan Subjects who are Archers on Horse have a Lance instead of Bows.

This sort of image is often used for cavalry that the rules classify as primarily bow armed rather than as lancers. The FoG rules classify cavalry by their primary weapons rather than by everything they actually carried. So troops listed as bow, sword armed may well also have a lance or light spear in addition, but in the historical record they are noted as being most effective as mounted archers rather than as cavalry that charged home and hence they are not classified as lancers. Having played other games where troops could be equipped with enough weapons to be perfectly armed for all occasions, I think the FoG approach yields much more historical effects.
