Quick question do you need a CMT to assault a defended building?

Not unless you are disordered to start with.
- although if you take hits from defensive fire coming in, you will of course need to pass a CMT to charge home.

My reason for asking is the rules on page 76 state "To enter a building all units must pass a CMT unless they are in March Column and moving along road" you are seem to say that you can enter a building to assault it without taking a CMT.

I believe that assaulting a building may not counted as 'entering' it - you move the assaulting troops into contact with the perimeter only.
Authority for this view can be found on page 45 where the CMT for entering buildings is listed under "Movement Phase only".

Also if you force the defenders to rout you can enter the building as your pursuit move.

Assaulting a building does not count as entering it.
