Number of times to shoot

If a BG double moves it must be further than 6MU away (although only a tiny amount)
This is just to confirm then that such a BG is not shot when it moves to that distance, but if it is a BG of HF moving towards shooters it will get shot 4 times before it can charge the enemy.

No shooting after the double move.
It then moves to a tiny bit over 3MU and gets shot
It gets shot at just over 3 MU in the enemy's turn.
It moves to almost contact and gets shot twice again.

So its rather foolish for the shooter to move forwards to close the range as the shooter will get less shots before the target is able to charge.

Hold on a mo...IIRC...

When you double move, you stop *at* 6MU.

No shooting at that distance, because bows must be *within* 6MU to shoot.

And for similar reasons (possibly bizarrely deoending on how think it "should" work) you double move to *at* 6MU, and your opponent can still double move i.e. turn 90 then march away.

I looked at the wording around these things quite carefully at one point, and that's how I was convinced it worked. If I'm wrong, and it wouldn't be the first time :), what's the wording that demonstrates otherwise?

If what you are suggesting is true, no wonder HF never get into contact, as similar to your description below HF double moving towards enemy HF stop *beyond* 6MU, enemy HF advance to *beyond* 3MU, and now you are both still outside charge distance?!?

This has come up before some place in the forum and I think RBS answered it. Essentially you must remain beyond 6 MU while performing a second move and hence it does take HF 3 turns to close if their opponent doesn't move. The wording in the rules is that a second move cannot "start, end or go within 6 MUs of any enemy". "Within" in this case includes being exactly at 6 MU.

The glossary
Within is At or closer than.
So you can not double move to within 6 MU. This includes being at 6 MU.
ergo you start 6.01 away.
move 3 MU to 3.01 away.
move 3 MU to .01 away.

This is hugely misplayed by even experienced players who get in the habit of moving to 6 MU. Which is an easy opps to make.

Whereas if HF do only a single move to 6MU they can next move to 3MU etc etc.

You're probably too young Dan! Get your Frankenfurter kit out of the closet for a bar or two of the Time Warp. Marc is normally pretty good at chiming in to finish the lines from musicals....

Actually, come to think if it, Phil bears a striking resemblance to The Rocky Horror Show's (Kiwi) Auteur Richard O'Brien.

Ahhh. Now I get it. He does like run Transylvanian armies.

About 4 years ago I was in Berlin and passed by a theater showing Rocky Horror. Let's just say the avante-garde version of the line to enter Rocky Horror there was...well...pretty indescribable.
