FOGR at Fall-In 2012 (Nov 2-4)

Fall-In is coming! No specific tournament schedule has been finalized, but I invite suggestions from potential attendees. We want to work with those organizing the FOGam events as much as possible to maximize both of our events as we have folks who game mostly FOGR and they have mostly FOGam gamers, but we both want to woo the players who enjoy both sets of rules. Tentatively therefore I am scheduling the FOGR Open for Saturday Nov 3rd, it would allow for both 15mm and 25mm games (this is to encourage our friends in Chicago to play). points and number of rounds are not set yet. The convention brochure deadline is two weeks away, so we don't have forever to set things in stone. So please respond if you thing Saturday is a good day or not. Also suggestions for point levels, time per round etc. Thank you in advance for responding.

Bob,

I have no real preference for myself which day the tourneys are on. I enjoy gaming with the Chicago Gang, so if Saturday works best for them, I'd say go with Saturday unless that would lose us a bunch of other players. I can make either day.

I hope we can do 15mm and 25mm. I'm tempted to suggest 650 points (for 15mm) and 500 points (for 25mm) after reading Tim's after action reports. But I'd be happy with the traditional 650 and 800 points.

I recently joined the NorthAmericanFOG Yahoo group since this encompasses many of the FOGAM and FOGR players who come to the HMGS conventions plus other American gamers. The consensus is for FOGR to have an Open on Saturday. We could have 12 players in 25mm plus 4-6 in 15mm. So far most of the 25mm folks have no issue with 650 pts, one gamer wants 800 points but others are trying to encourage him to downsize.

So mark your calenders Fall-In will have a FOGR tournament on Saturday Nov 3rd.

That is what I will plan so I am running my Football/Soccer game Friday night then and playing Fog(R) Saturday. Is it 650 for both scales or 800/650?

Jeff if you bring 25mm make a 650pt list. 15mm is in 800pts what teams are going to be in the Soccer match?

Can we do 900 at Cold Wars, most people are playing that it seems, if you feel you can't run that may I suggest you delegate to someone who could ?

Really? Britcon, Oxford, and Roll Call all are 800 points. At Cold Wars I'll ask the attendees if they would like to use 900 points or not at Cold Wars.

Most people over here seem to have moved to 900 pts. Not bothered about UK tourneys as I have no plans to fly there to play in them.

Bottom line us Bob, are you going to run tourneys for the benefit of the general gamers, or your close circle of buddies. I'm not going to Fall In, but my vote for CW is 900pts, and 2 seperate tourneys at 15 & 25.

Bob,

I also think 800 out to be our maximum points - I certainly would not object to fewer points on a smaller table, which is actually what is happening in other venues. I think your plan to poll participants is a reasonable wy to proceed. Let's ask those who actually show up to play what they want to see.

Fine, let Bob run 25mm for his mates if that is all you want to do, and let someone else run a 15mm tournament.

Funnily enough at H-Con (which I know you never attended) the 15mm was run just fine by Dan & Mark, by all accounts everyone had a wonderful time.

Or can we look forward to more mixed 25mm & 15mm tourneys then ? Where the leaders never have to face each other, brilliant idea !

Maybe the way forward is to think of the good of Fog R & not the good of a few cronies.

800 pts in 15mm. Who exactly are these "most people" that are playing 900 points anyway?

Yes, I would like to know, too.

Well we have played 900 points at a number HMGS events for starters.

Also I would note several of the authors have remarked they think 900 works better.

Not saying 800 is bad. But why not 850 or 750 or 900.

Holy Cow Scrumpy.
Can't we all get along.

I am in favor of variety. Table size. pre set terrain, different points.

But I aslo want people to enjoy.

My wish is for the FoG R to be run for the enjoyment of all, not just a clique which appears to be the case.

Paul,

I'm puzzled. The only "clique" I understood Bob wished to consult were those who actually showed up to play all three rounds of the tourney at Fall In. That seems eminently reasonable to me, since it is how Bob wishes to proceed, and it is after all Bob who has put himself out there to run the tourney. If you find the format Bob intends to use so objectionable as to be unplayable, and want to put together a tourney yourself using other point values, scales, or themes, by all means do so. If you are correct in your assumptions and Bob is wrong, the proof, as they say, will be in the pudding. But let's not sit idle on the sidelines and snipe at someone who has stepped up to run a tourney.

My comments were aimed at COLD WARS and 2013, or is that something you failed to spot ?

I merely asked if Bob was going to stick with his usual cronies from DBR days, or let the general public in. Simple answer is let Bob run the 25mm for his group, and let someone competent run the 15mm for those who wish to 15mm. I was merely suggesting both Marc & Dan as they successfully ran a tournament at H-Con and more along those lines could be offered to 15mm players.

Criticizing the only guy willing to volunteer his time every year to run these events is not good policy. You seem to be the only one who has a complaint with Bob & his "competence". When will we see you step up to run FOGR events?

For the record, I have run tourneys at our local club level for many years. I appreciate the requirements needed to run them.
