Strat bomber range

Playing as the Allies I have US and British strategic bombers that are on 4/5 tech level of STrategic Operations but they cannot reach Berlin, even when based on the eastern-most tip of the UK. My understanding is that the Allies were bombing Berlin from 1943 (earlier?)
Can/should this be corrected so that Berlin can be reached earlier for bombing?
PS: I am fairly new to this forum, so if this has been asked before, sorry.

This is true. But if you wanted to be strictly historical, you would have to give fighters the ability to escort the bombers all the way to Berlin at higher tech levels.
My take on it is this: air unit ranges are abstracted, and not strictly historically accurate in this game. This is for the sake of game balance, because having air units with huge attack ranges is not good for game balance. In real life, it would take the Allies many months of intense bombing to bomb a city down to "zero production," (giving absolutely nothing to the war effort) while in CEAW it can take just a few turns, or 1-2 months.
The ranges have been basically the same from the beginning of CEAW, and if you changed it I think you might run into some unintended consequences.

In-game distances are inaccurate and inconsistent, so ranges have to be different than IRL, too. We don't need to worry about escort fighters - they are represented by increased survivability of STRATs and TACs. In-game air units represent only very large concentrations of aircraft. Also, since 1 turn = 20 days, PPs in cities are repaired for free and in most games the intensive strategic bombing campaign doesn't start until 1943, I think that this part of the game works fine.

It would take changes in the game itself to provide historical differences between the countries. The game is abstracted because of the production and the generic attributes needed for such a system. I would like to see in the future a remedy to this IMO. It could be that the range is increased depending of the historical capabilities of the country.Only a few countries would benefit from this. Aircraft may have the range, but the historical data would say whether or not they could put bombs on the target.
You could have it that at X range beyond the norm the Strategic strength is reduce by Y points. So a long range bombing run could be done, but at reduced strength and you could also have increased casualties because of the distance (ie interception). This would represent longer range attacks encounter more opposition, breakdowns and such. Also the planes could not carry as many bombs versus fuel. There could be a date when this or a function of Tech to allow this as in other capabilities allowed currently in the game.
