SK units range of fire

Is a SK unit ( or light INF temporary in SK formation ) limited to 2 MU as fire range ?, same as extended line .

All light infantry, including light infantry in skirmish formation, get 5 dice at medium range, which is 6 MU.
The range of an a unit in extended line is not limited to 2 MU (unless the infantry is unreformed and has no attachments capable of firing at medium range). However, at medium range (6 MU) the unit in extended line only fires as one unit (rather than as 2 at close range) and will need to split its dice against all the medium range targets at least partially in front of it.

Ok , but it is far from being clear in the rules .....and SK units ...pure SK units in the austrian army ! or the Ottoman one....the thing is ..as SK unit there is no "formed unit" to fall back for protection ...

That is true, and if you evade through the boys out back you have to test for being burst through, skirmishers are quite dangerous to their own side in these rules. So far have not taken any Grenzers, but they might be seeing the table soon. Still 1809 list so they can form into tactical unit or skirmish line.

All LIGHT infantry in tactical, extended line and skirmish formation can fire 6MU. Their formation does not change the fact that they are light infantry.
Units in extended line have the same medium range dice that they do when in tactical. they just spread their fire over a wider frontage.
A unit in Skirmish formation MUST also be in either tactical formation or extended line formation.
All units in extended line (even if also in skirmish formation) fire as 2 half-units at close range. (but with a -POA if in skirmish)

And all units in extended line lose one die for CTs.

You mean page 49 where it spells out firing ranges and dice makes no mention of "SK" isn't clear? It says
light infantry

The rules are funny, good but badly written . The answers to your question are not always easy to find and as we have no conceptor in Belgium ....we have the forum ....

I know ...and I try to promote the game in Belgium .... the french asked me to organise a tournament in january . Still discussing it . I prefer playing a big scenario ( Eylau ) based on the Napoleon's battles scen .

Yes and oups while rereading the post so you can be in SK formation and still in "tactical" 2 bases deep ...interesting

yes you can be in 2 deep tactical or extended line. Does give your skirmishers some choice in how wide they have to be, being 2 deep makes less width so less chance of disrupting friends to your rear when you evade, or so I hope since one of these days I will have to field Grenzers.... and later they can only be skirmishers.
