I am actually surprised by the result so far.
25 votes and 100% voting no.
WOW.
I thought it would be well and truly in the favour of the 'no' but not that much.

The poll wording is very cryptic. Why not use plain language? 'Would you buy FoG v 2 if it is ONLY available in a digital format without a printable option?'

Thank you. For some of us Engrish is a second language.

It would probably make sense to add a maybe option. At the moment I'm probably not going to do so but still on the fence to some degree.

I've voted yes because I expect to buy a digital copy to create a 100% up to date paper supplement for my v1 Book. That way my friends and I can keep playing v1 Plus.

But there is not going to be a way to print a hard copy so you'll have to take the hardware whenever you play. Thats why people are so angry and if it stays that way V1 will be played without the changes.

Nothing prevents people from sitting patiently and dictate every single change whereas a mate takes notes of them. Finally someone will distribute among club members and someone else will make it arrive to somebody else until all changes are posted online in some obscure forum. That is how it always goes and that is how it will likely go with a V2 online only. Finally that means less customers and thus sales.
If, instead of that, you sell a hardcopy of a book, the former will eventually happen also, but at least you would have secured the sales of those wanting a nice printed product. Now Slitherine is pushing to all people not owning those devices to piracy practices.
Adapting to new times it's not only about selecting the hardest format to copy, but get innovative products. We have heard that V2 will be an ebook, but what are really the new functionalities for the player? Was there really a demand for a book in electronic format to substitute the tradictional onse? More than 80% of people don't think so...

That's an interesting observation Strategos.
I have a pet hate about the 'anti-piracy advertisements' on DVD's and the like. And THIS (
http://www.abstractmodem.com/5387.jpg) picture sums up my feelings 100%.
It seems that money is lost through piracy (no doubt about it) but most people are honest and will pay for rules that are available for download and printout.
I'm gonna make another Poll.

I have an iPad but can't see myself rushing out to buy them. Might wait a while till the price drops before I consider.
Seeing the sentiment about these rules in the Central London club, I can't see any of us getting into these rules quickly.

Hi Slim,
What was the sentiment before the '100% digital' announcement?

So the best we have to look forward to is the inevitable theft of our property, strikes me as a first class reason to leave this as digital only!! And having read this mail and looking at the poll where 6% of players brazenly post that they will steal our work it makes me wonder if we really should bother at all.
Fortunately I know that the vast majority of gamers have integrity levels to a much higher standard than some who have posted here. The inevitable outcome of the sort of conduct above is not as suggested, but rather the rules creators would simply call it a day, no one likes to see their property stolen.
However, I can tell you that the integrity of the vast majority of players is beyond reproach and thanks to them the hobby is largely self policing. In fact we have to thank a number of players world wide who have written to us in confidence reporting both theft and piracy. Thanks to them we have been able remove a number of pirate copies from circulation and in one particular instance we have commenced proceeding against an individual thief.
I think putting this in perspective is important, this is not regarded as petty theft by us or the law and in fact in USA if we take this down the criminal route it is a federal offence.

JDM

And just to reiterate what I've previously said; I have purchased original copies of the v1 rule book and every single AM army list book and intend to purchase the digital version as soon as its available (whether its printable or not). I also found the 'press release' made freely available by Slitherine quite a handy quick reference sheet of many (but obviously not all) of the v2 changes that allows me (and my friends) to start playing now (in advance of v2 publication) with some of the changes. My Khmer elephants really like 3 dice at impact and my Norman armoured knights have gained a new lease of life!

Just adding to this in case anybody missed it or wasn't clear. Any discussion or encouragement of piracy is forbidden on the forums. Piracy is illegal and you will be immediately and permanently banned. Previously we have only had to remind people of this on the computer games but it applies just as well in any format.
This is first and final warning.
