Commander Models

Greetings all!
Just getting into ancients and love the FoG rules. I have one question in regards to commander models. The rules state that for a Principate Roman army the commanders "should be modelled as auxillary cavalry." I would like to use infantry for at least my sub-commanders. Would this be technically acceptable? Thanks so much!

Of course it would! In practice most gamers depict their generals as they prefer.

Yes. I think the 'should' is 'if history is your thing' but they are toy soldiers. Do what you want.

Another thing I tend to do is upscale my commanders. Putting 1 25mm figure on a 40x40mm base (or 40x30) makes him stand out. It sounds odd, but it actually looks ok.

The madaxeman does the same 25mm trick. My Principate Roman commanders are on foot and I have not had any complaints.
