How do I know?

Good Morning! How do I know when I've lost too much of my core that its folly to continue to try and move through the grand campaign? I just got through the meatgrind known as Stalingrad (marginal victories), then chose to "break out" of Stalingrad defying the order of the Wehrmacht and I actually was able to get a decisive victory escorting the 7 Hungarian Aux troops to Sector C. However, I am now on the next scenario (I'm at work and the name escapes me) and I'm afraid my core just took too much of a beating in Stalingrad to continue as I keep getting steamrolled. Of the top of my head I think I only have left...

22 Units
3 Fighters (maxed out)
3 Stukas (maxed out)
3 F/B (maxed out)
10 Tanks (mish mash of units)
3 Infantry

I have about 4200 in Prestige from my decisive victory, but only about 2700 left after replenishing my current units which doesn't leave me too much to rebuild.

In the professional opinion of people here, do I still have a shot of continuing the campaign? I'm kicking myself for not creating a different save before Stalingrad.

Love the game, been playing it for a year since release.

Thanks!

Chris

Well, at this point, you're on the last scenario in the campaign, so you might as well finish it up with your existing core. Then you might start the next GC with the vanilla core, to see what you get, and then start it with the remnants of your '41 campaign, to see how big the difference is. If the next GC doesn't give you enough starting prestige to rebuild, you can always use the cheat code to get enough prestige to bring your core up to par with the vanilla alternative.

There really is not cut and dry answer to if your CORE has been to badly depleted. If you are playing on a harder level you might want to play on an easier level until you get the hang of the better ways to play the game. This will also give you a better idea as to what kind of CORE you need / want to use and then you can adjust your decisions based on your past experience. But as a rule of thumb if you cannot deploy a full CORE or very close to it you are probably in trouble.

Just looking at your CORE it looks like you need to start over with more artillery. Usually going into Stalingrad I have 7 towed artillery pieces and 4 self-propelled. I don't always use them all but usually field at least 10 of them. Suppression is how you keep your casualties down.

Thanks for the replies. I just discovered that I can start this 42 GC over with the CORE I brought over from 41. Its so nice to see 35 experienced units vs what I ended up with at the end of the campaign! I'm going to start this campaign over with my original CORE.

Thanks for taking the time to help out!
