Can stakes be placed, when the BG is deployed on table (without CMT) or can only be placed on a manoeuvre phase?

Hi Rekila,

in the special features section on portable defense, the third dot " a battle group can.... as a full complex move in the manoeuvre phase." so you can place them in the first manoeuvre phase you will have if you want to put them the first turn you will play, throwing the dice for each Battle group;

That's what they all say... unless they are defended by English Longbowmen... at Agincourt... but we don't talk about that.

Can't remember off the top of my head, but don't you have to be within a certain distance of enemy to place stakes? Maybe not, but you can't have enemy within 6 when you pick them back up.

Perhaps its orb within a certain distance

Nope, only to pick them up as you say. You can stick them in the earth whenever you want (so long as you pass a CMT).

I would think it silly to not be able to start the game with them deployed, but who am I to argue?

Maybe the deliberately chose to leave open the possibility of reproducing something like Patay on the tabletop?
