Transporting my army

Hi

I have purchased some box files to transport my armies around.

Looking for advice on where to buy:

magnetic strips to attach to the bottom of the figure bases
ferrous material to line the box files

Also, how thick are the magnetic strips? I don't want to make my figures too tall!

Thanks

PS - I know you can buy magnetic bases but I have a load of bases already made up that aren't magnetic.

If you are based in the UK my preferred solution is from Abel Magnets

http://www.magnetic-paper.com/

The two products I use are -
Item: A4 Self Adhesive Flex O Metal sheet
Item: 0.8mm Self Adhesive A4 Magnetic sheet

The flex O Metal sheet is a rubberised version (not dissimilar to the magnetic sheet). Together they form a great bond. Much better than the thin 'steel paper'.

Using these two you can store 'light' figures upside down on the lid too. Really packs 'em in for storage.

thanks

Simon

I have used either of these (the Maelstrom one's used to be cheaper before)

In general with neodimium magnets you have a stronger grasp than with the softer ones. I make a whole on the wooden base and install the magnet in it.

Supplementary question on the magnetic paper.

They offer thinner than 0.8mm. Is there a reason you go for that thickness? I would ideally like to add less to the total height of my figures (15mm).

Thanks

Thinner magnet, lesser bond. The .8 sheet is a robust solution, figures won't move in transit. It depend on how much and what type of travel you intend to do.

If you haven't already based your army I'd consider basing your figures with steel and lining your box with magnetic material. You're limited somewhat in the strength of the magnet you can put under bases, but you can have the worlds largest magnet in a box and stick your figures to it.
