Download purchases or simply unlock them?

Does one need to download and install purchased army packs individually or can one just enter the serial codes and unlock them from the latest patch? Before, I was doing the former and have discovered the latter works, which is obviously simpler. Want to check I'm not missing anything by skipping the downloading. Thanks.

Just entering the serial codes is all you need.

I've just reinstalled the base game on a new computer and though I have it updated to 1.80 I'm not finding any obvious way to unlock battle packs by entering the serial number. Can you help me out here?
