Tactical surrender - Can it be done?

I'm right at the end of a Capture the Crossing game (zero turns left). My opponent and I have got several units close to the key VP, the bridge at the centre of the map. I've knocked out a couple of guard tanks and now it's time for a final run at the Cromwell sitting on the flag. I decided to use a 1/5 Engineer first, to wear him down a bit, before sending in the real flag capturers. This worked to reduce the Cromwell's morale, except that now I've got a 1/5 Engineer with no moves left, stuck between the rest of my forces on the only single track path to the vital flag. (How is it that a 1/5 Engineer doesn't die when you actually want him to, after taking on a Cromwell and a machine gun nest, lol?!) Is there any way to tactically surrender units that are in the way? Surrender the skirmish to win the war sort of thing...?

This scenario always finished like this, I loosed several games after killing the opponent unit that was occupying the bridge because I can pass through my ow units.
This is a improvement that will maybe need BA: the possibility to make a friendly unit pass through tiles where there are a friendly unit. I'll add this to the wish list.

I would say this would be gamey at best
Yes, sometimes units get in the way, but that happens in real life as well.....In particular you'd get trafic jams on a narrow bridge.. I ve never heard of any military commander ordering his troops to surrender so they can make way for others....

Yeah tmoj, I confess it's trying to make the game, gamey... Think of it more as strategic sacrifice... deliberately losing a unit, to win the war... When there's one way through on a single space path and only one turn to go, it's all down to luck whether the throw of the dice of the game engine decides to kill your unit or not, so you can send another one of several fresh units waiting right there... If, remarkably, a 1 of 5 engineer takes on a tank and a machine gun nest, survives, but doesn't have the moves left to get onto the game VP, the randomness is a little gamey too... Would a real world commander roll his tanks (or ride his cavalry) straight through his own depleted infantry in order to secure a "must secure" battle objective... I'm not sure that I'd like what history teaches on that one...

In my opinion it's not a surrender question, is a pass through question.
Each tile has between 50-100 m2 (7 x 7 to 10 x 10) so, it should not be a problem to send a squad through a wounded engineer squad, or a bogged tank.

Thanks enric, you explain much better than I did. yep, it's pass through. I understand it's on Pip's to do list (how does that man find time to sleep?!
