Late XV century Spearmen.

After some resistance I finally decided to make some defensive spearmen to use as northern spearmen (WOR) Castilian/Portuguese defensive spearmen, Hungarians etc. Offensive spearmen seems no problem as I use pikes bases in shallow or mixed bases BGs . But how to represent defensive spearmen baffled me. The basic figures with spear and shield look too much XIV century. A front rank with pavises/spear on BGs with mixed weapons figures could be a solution, but maybe not be appropriated for all the armies of late XV c. All advice will be very welcome.

Thanks, unfortunately I forgot to say that we use 25/28mm

. But something like that is really what I need, maybe with a mix of armored and unarmored for more flexibility.

In 28mm you can use the Perry Merc's. They're meant to be Swiss/Burgundian pikemen, but being plastics it's not a headache to cut the spears down.

I think that the difference between defensive and offensive spearmen was in the training rather than weapon/protection. It was much easier to get men to stand in a shieldwall than to attack one.
I use Essex figures for all of mine as they have a good range of different figures.
