Glancing through the AAR's I saw that most people play with sprites instead of counters. I was surprised. I hate sprites - I find them very distracting visually.

I guess you mean with sprites the unit images and with counters the NATO symbols. You select both in GS. If others prefer sprites then that's their choice. You can still play with counters if you like.

I'm just the opposite; I love the images and have trouble following the sprites. To each their own.
