Have been playing the original version (not GS)/PC/hotseat against my wife for some time now, gradually reducing her advantage with each game and alternating sides. On max and medium advantages she always won, either taking Perm, or taking Berlin before I could win in France. I always wanted a game where I just held on in Perm and then began the slow push back to Berlin. Finally on low axis advantage this has happened: with her final attack on Perm I held out with 1 strength left of a corps with Zhukov as general. Then in a classic Stalingrad-type move I counterattacked round her flanks cutting off her 12 tanks and destroying most of her huge airforce before it's remnants could escape. I began to beseige her 12 tanks while half my force held back her forces coming from the west to try and rescue the tanks. Then luckily (a late) winter set in to delay her, and I could repair and upgrade everything. The effectiveness of the trapped tanks fell to 0 and I began to pick them off with no loss to me. The UK/US has meanwhile landed loads in N France and wiped out her planes there; and this is having an effect on her efforts to reinforce the east; and I've won in N Africa. But I'm awaiting the next axis onslaught towards Perm once winter finishes...........

Sounds great. Just don't boast about a potential victory too much unless you want to face a massive RL counter-attack!

Conclusion- a stalemate developed in Russia, but the UK/US forces easily took Berlin.
