Last night there was a bit of confusion in one of the games which arose from what I think was a missunderstanding but either way is a confusing piece of text in the CMT rules.

If a BG turns and moves it is allowed to make a simple advance. Now a simple advance in my book is one where the CMT box is green BUT...

The first box in the CMT chart in the rules now reads

"Difficult forward moves (see below) with no more than a single wheel"

At the end of the CMT chart we get

"A difficult forward move is one that includes a single wheel and/or is less than the troops’ full available move distance - unless either:
a) All of the movement is more than 6 MU from any enemy (including the enemy camp but not an enemy commander’s base), or
b) A commander is with the battle group or battle line. He must start the phase with a battle group and remain with it for the whole phase."

Now is an advance within 6MU that includes a wheel but is performed by drilled troops (or cavalry or skirmishers) simple (because the box is green and hence simple or difficult because the move is described as difficult in the text??

I feel that the colour of the box is key here but it could very easily be read the other way.

A good point and needs making more obvious I suspect. I think we may have altered the difficutl move bit in an attempt to do so. All green advances are simple unless you are a Warwagon or Artillery.

In the old chart a wheel with a green advance was allowed, this was changed to a wheel followed by a simple advance, then the word difficult was added to the defintion of one of the advances which is I think where the confusion arose.

Not sure we need to raise this chestnut again. It has been raised and discussed before.

Difficult does not equal complex. If it is green it is simple. A difficult forward move is simple for drilled troops - this is in fact clearly shown on the chart. Hammy is just having trouble believing it means what it says.

The idea of a difficult forward move was just to avoid putting the whole of that paragraph in the main chart.

I think it is clear, but just a bit vulnerable due to simple and difficult being commonly used opposites.

I wonder if there is a better word than difficult for it ..................... other than complex of course!

I didn't particularly have an issue because I was used to the old green move text. I suspect that someone looking at the rules from a newbie point of view could well be very confused that a line titled difficult advance is actually mostly simple moves.

It is pretty clear from the reference sheet, it is just that the wording on the table in the rules book could lead to confusion and in this case did.

My fault this one I think. I had thought that this change was meant because I remember in the last version I had it stated you could turn and make a "green" advance, this was amended to be a "simple" advance.

Was there any reason why the green advance was removed - this made it extremely easy to understand!

The Osprey design team may choose to use different colours. We changed it because we don't yet know what the final colours will be, and it is one less thing to worry about correcting at the last minute.
