Pre-Measuring

Hi Guys,

In general, is pre-measuring allowed in FOGN?

Specifically the question came up during a movement phase and a player moved his unit outside of the movement reach of the opponent to avoid being charged and we measured it, measuring the distance to insure it was.

There are many things that would require pre-measuring to see if a circmustance applies, etc., but this one seemed possibly out of bounds.

Thanks in advance,

Rob

I don't think there is anything in the rules (FoGN or the others) that disallows pre-measuring. It seems quite fine to be able to move and s, "I'm just out of 6MU or just within 6MU." You need to in order to not move too close in a second move.

FOG games don't prohibit measuring things.

Premeasuring is allowed in all FOG games.
It would not seem logical that the lower level officers would not know whether they were out of range for firing, and to know that they need to move closer to fire cannister etc.
The whole concept of movement distances and charge distances is just a game mechanic. Units would move faster or slower when the situation meritted it. In a game where a move represents about 20mins, the exact distance you could charge depends on a lot of different factors, so we allow players to pre-measure, because if you intend to charge you shouldn't have to guess whether or not you could reach the enemy in the next 20min move.
