New strategy for Sedan.

I gave up on Fallschirmjaeger a long time ago, but decided to bring 'em back out, once I remembered there are support units capable of paradrop in the SS Eqp file. I loaded two Fallschirmjaeger at 13 str, one green 7.5 artillery and one 12 str artillery I changed into 7.5 just for this operation.

I cleared Alle and Pussemange first to prevent enemy spotting of my transport planes. On turn three I moved my four Ju-52s five hexes from the shoreline opposite my side of the Meuse River, while setting up a couple support units to attack Charleville-Meizeires from the front. One Ju-52 was attacked by AA because the Chareville fortress spotted him, even after moving them as far away in the north-west of the map as I could. I only took a few casualties because I had their airforce occupied by intentionally leaving a couple Stukas and ground units exposed.

I dropped my two Fallschirmjaegers and two 7.5 cm artillery guns on turn five, and on turn six used one para/arty to attack the Charleville fortress, bringing it to a 3, and the other to attack the AA unit set in Nouzonville, destroying it. By this time I had an infantry, 8.8, and 15cm gun close enough to move into position to attack from the front - the same units that cleared Alle and Pussemange.

The 7.5s don't do much, but they suppress just enough that it really changes my outlook on attacking from the air. There is also a 3.7cm AA you can paradrop. Having these support units should solve alot of the problems inherent in using Fallschirmjaegers.

Thanks, Airbornmongo. :mrgreen:

I'm unsure if this strategy helped me time-wise, as it still took until the beginning of turn 16 to win, with enemy Exp set to 325. I don't remember exactly how long it took my first time through.

Is there a list of which units can be airdropped?

I wish all this stuff was listed somewhere. Which units can be switched between different modes of fire, which units have a non-standard rate of fire, which units have abilities like ignoring fortification level, which can be paradropped, and so on. It doesn't make sense to me that you have to learn most of it through trial and error.

Agreed. I was working in the equipment editor when I noticed the para trait on the artillery. It also shows everything you just mentioned. Check it out.

Agent, in the standard game/equipment file only Fallschirmjager can be dropped as far as I can tell.

4key is using the SS equipment file where some extra units have been granted the para trait.

The equipment listing can be found as an excel file on the forums somewhere and you can then filter the traits to see what unit can do what etc.

@4key

You're welcome 4key,glad you're enjoying the airborne units

@to all
In my mods ----SS Panzer Corps--Heet Total SE---Elite Units and the collaboration w/ Nikivdd---SS-GTPG. There were numerous changes,such as adding airborne air defense and airborne arty and the 128mm flak getting a dual role,among numerous other switches.

Check out the threads and or the read-me for the mods for a list of changes.

Unfortunately your strategy is really flawed since none of those support units can paradrop in the standard game. It would be significantly more impressive if you had a new strategy that didn't involve using a different equipment file.

Now having said that those units SHOULD be able to paradrop sometime in the war because historically I know the fallschirmjaegers did have airdropped artillery support but I'm not sure they were available in 1940.

I understand where you're coming from, but c'mon man, you might as well say breaking out of Stalingrad is a really flawed strategy, or invading the USA is flawed.

Paying 254 prestige for a Stuka is flawed.

Having more than one SU-122 is flawed.

Dropping Fallschirmjagers after 1943 is flawed strategy.
