Sorry you didn't enjoy the game. I can only say that it's not really an RTS in the conventional sense - the battles rely a lot more on tactics and good use of your customised squads. Perhaps you should give it a little more time, as you only bought it today. That or feel free to give us some added constructive feedback - we are always happy to hear how people feel our games could be better.
Cheers
Pip

Sorry you dont like the game but the game is really an RPG on an epic scale. If that is not of interest then I can see why the game would not appeal. The RTS part of teh game really comes to life when you take in to account the progression the RPG side offers - upgrading, equiping, customizing uniforms etc. It sounds like you'd made assumptions about the game that were not true, so I'd suggest you try to open your mind and take the game for what it is. I know many people have had countless hours of fun with it

but its not like a rpg game either my favourite games of all time are rome total war(rts) & the final fantasy(rpg) series & i can tell you's your game is nothing like either...you's are good at your jobs & who am i to tell you's how to make a game but if i were you's i'd pick a format & stick with it either rts or rpg...(RTS)in an rts game you should have a map away from the battle field were you construct buildings of 1 sort or another to upgrade your army...in all rts games ive played you construct buildings to create your different units eg:stables, barrarks, artillary then as the time period moves forward you upgrade your buildings & in return your units are upgraded
(RPG)im sorry but its not a rpg if there is no world to explore,no puzzles to figure out & no story line.
look all i can say is if you want to know what a RTS game should be like get ROME TOTAL WAR r MEDIEVAL2 TOTAL WAR
& if you want to know what a RPG game should be like get FINAL FANTASY
each of those game's are the benchmark game in their respective formats

The Legion Arenas series (so HC:GBoR too) are one of the best games I've ever played. I understand somebody not liking them, as the saying goes one can't argue with taste. But there are plenty of misunderstandings here. HC:GBoR is not an RTS and it's not an RPG. It has elements of both but that's it. It is in fact a genre of it's own which in modern times is something astounding. Also I'd like to point out that neither RTW and MTW(2) are RTS games, calling them so shows a real lack of perspective. They are turn based strategies with small real time elements (as "real time" appears only in battles and the ability to pause and give orders make it another form of turn-based). So basically you're saying that one game, which is not an rts (HC:GBoR) is worse an RTS than another game that also is not an RTS (RTW, MTW).

The beginning is easy but you should try to play on very hard and you'll see that you will need a lot of thinking to win battles. I enjoy the game very much and i do play Rome: Total War as well. Both very good game but also very different.
You should try to go further in the campaign and see if you can go very far on very hard...should be interesting to see how a RTW vet does...

We have no problem with people not liking our games. No game is going to appeal to everyone! That doesn't mean it's not a good game though - it just means it's not for you.

One may like or dislike the games but you just gotta love the attitude. In case of vast majority of companies users concerns do not get "official" answers, let alone such prompt ones and in a thread like this.

hmmm......Rome total war and final fantasy...the two trendiest applications of both named Genres...the games that slitherine produce are for the historical and military afficianados that can respect the true grit of the battle in which you are placed as well as relish in the idea of seeing each unit prosper and grow based upon the choices you make for them as well as their performance in battle...you become attached to the units because they are YOURS!!they prosper or fall based upon your actions and how you nurture them...and as far as their being only battles...the fact of the matter is,as a Legate in Rome you did one or the other...you commanded the legions into epic warfare,or you gave up the sword for politics...but you know..as anyone can see...Rome did not become what it is through the ditherings of greedy men in the senate,Rome became what it was through the blood and honour of the men that fought under the Eagles to make it so,and this is what Slitherine and Great Battles focuses on,the true spirit of ROME!!!!!Hail to Ian and hail to the team, never let the shortcomings of others cloud your visions!!!!!!

Actually the game does tell you that, just in words. I agree that showing a map from time to time would be a good idea.

war games and sims are not to everyones likings, and you can't really compare one game with another as there are too many things that aren't the same, most people here have played this type of game before and have bought older versions and liked them alot so everytime a new one comes out we buy them, if you haven't i would have got a demo first like most people do and play b4 you buy, for me the game is just right but i like any type of war game / sim so thats why i buy them, good work everyone and lets hope there's another, maybe a random game generator in a patch would be nice as 100 battles won't last me long.......

Hey guys, I bought Legions Arena 2..I think thats the latest version of it...I played for days!! and got the expansion pack which added a weird twist to the game.
One thing tho..I noticed this in my local game store and the cover looked simply..WOW...a rome game

but...It looks like Legions Arena..I cant see the difference?? sounds like the same units and 100 campaign levels..sounds like id be repeating Legions Arena??
ive checked all over the place..and cant find any differences?? can someone who has this game and legions arena point out whats different before I buy it??

No you've not! That info is in at least one thread two "slots" below this one.
Anyway, AFAIK you get the same campaign as in Legion Arena with some tweaks (e.g. new interface) and the amazing THC movies every few battles. Oh, and I think the music is new too.
