I purchased a couple of DBA army packs from Essex, and most of it is pretty straightforward, but there are a few things where there's not a 1:1 alignment between what's in the DBA army pack and what's in the FoG lists. I'm wondering specifically about these guys:



"Peltasts"

and



"Peltast, Javelin & shield"

Do these fellows map to the FoG listing of Thureophoroi? Or are they simply light javelinmen?

they could be. Theurophoroi seems to be a generic ancient term for mercenary medium foot.

"Thureophoroi are usually distinguished from both skirmishers and the phalanx and seem to have operated in a role intermediate between the two types. They often supported light troops and seemed to be capable of operating in a similar manner to peltasts. The thureophoroi were well suited to the tactical needs for smaller states, mainly border defense. They were mobile and could rapidly advance over varied terrain. According to Plutarch, they could fight as skirmishers and then fall back, assume spears and tighten the ranks, forming a phalanx.[1]"

That said their javelins are a bit short for Offensive spears. I had the same problem with Old Glory Theurophoroi and had to replace their short spears with piano wire.

Interesting. That Wikipedia article, for what it's worth, definitely seems to classify these fellows as MF. This makes me question even more the authors' decision to remove the MF option for Thureophoroi in FoG 2.0. Well heck, now I really don't know how to base these models.

It is covering 3-4 centuries of time so the soldier's role could have evolved or meant different things in different nations, but the generic name remained. Like Grenadiers no longer threw Grenades by the SYW/Napoleonic eras, just had a funny hat. The theurophoroi had the theureos shield.

Yes they call those figures "Seleucid Militia Theureophoroi," which maps either to the "civic militia" line or the "Theureophoroi" line in the Later Seleucid army list. I was planning on using them as militia. But I see what you're saying, that one could use these figures for Thuerophoroi or even Thoratikai - they have helmets, after all, so one could argue they could qualify as "protected." Although they don't appear to have any thoracic armor, but I guess it could be under their robes. I'll just have to score some Thuereureos shields for them- it doesn't appear from the Xyston website that they come with shields.
