Battle Line Shifts

If a Battle Line is making an advance, is it allowed to shift, either the 'free' sideways shift or the minimum shift to avoid obstacles?

The question came up last night and I couldn't find any specific reference in the rules. The book talks about BLs when discussing wheels but only talks about BGs for turns and shifts.

Yes, a Battle line can do a sideways shift.

Page 41 Battle lines are limited to the 'Advances' section of the move table.

Page 45 Shifting, an advance can include a sideways shift. There is no qualification that this rule only applies to BGs; ipso facto any advance (made by either a BG or BL) can include a sideways shift as long as it meets the other criteria on page 45.

The page 41 quote is just what I was looking for and couldn't find. I'm going to cross-reference it in my book. Thanks.
