Napoleon's Battles

Hey All,

I'm wondering if any 'Napoleon's Battles' converts have used their NB armies for FoG Naps.

I have a small but effective force of British and French made up for NB. I don't want to re-base.

Now that the rules are actually OUT and it's not speculation - could someone tell me if they will work and if there will be any problems?

I don't know about your rules, but the games so far have been very enjoyable.

It might help people to mention how NB does basing.

I've played some trial games by slipping 30x40 card under 2 infantry bases. Artillery is roughly right. But cavalry on 2 inch deep bases simply doesnt work. So you could get away with only rebasing your cav. I'm rebasin everything though as the figures needed touching up and the base style looks tired.

I sort of disagree on the 2 inch deep bases.

Fundamentally non-Light cavalry and all infantry in 15mm can be base
80mm wide x 60mm deep.

I quickly rebased some figures on what was available and found no problem with deeper cav.

There is a real argument that all units could just be sitting on a single square base because you rarely need to deploy them wide.

Light cavalry is the exception. They do need to be able to go one deep I think. Not needed every game. But likley 1 in 3.

Just use 2 NB infantry bases for a single FOG N base and that should work. So a small unit would be 8 NB bases. We have played it this way for LASALLE which uses the same 40mm base frontage for 15mm scale. It isn't exact but works and looks good.

As was mentioned cavalry is more problematic for the extended line formation.

Good point.

Infantry:
Brits are on 1" square bases.

French (and everyone else)
3/4" front 1" deep.

4 to a base.

Cavalry:
1" front 2" deep.

4 to a base.

The scale ( men/unit ) is almost the same . It helps as there is a lot of NB scenarios , but ground scale is another matter . I plan to try one of those scen ( Eylau ) but first have to finish rebasing my NB armies ! and paint some french

I have a number of troops based to 1.5 inches for another set. Unit frontage of 3 inches (4 French or 3 English bases) is only 3.8mm short of 80mm - in a pinch, tiny dice or stubs on the base can be used where exact lining up against 40mm bases matters, which appears less frequent a need in this FOG. What matters is the unit footprint and being able to substitute attachments.
